Top Five Cockroach Hiding Places in Your Home or Business

Cockroach hiding places are hard to spot since they are nocturnal animals who will avoid light and people, you can have a cockroach infestation and not even know! They not only live in the dark, but they also prefer to feed in the dark. If they can find food in dark and moist places, they may never leave them. That means they can hide in surprising places, like under wallpaper and in the cracks in walls and floors. 

What does that mean for you?

It means that you have to be aware of the signs of cockroach infestation and not just looking out for cockroaches. There are three signs you need to be aware of when you are watching out for a cockroach infestation: 
  • Cockroach Droppings
  • Bad Smells 
  • Cockroach Eggs 
Once you have seen cockroach droppings, you will know how to recognize them. However, if you have not seen them before, you may not know how they look. Droppings look like black pepper or coffee grounds. Larger roaches leave larger droppings, which can look cylindrical.  

Cockroaches smell unpleasant. It may not be noticeable unless you have a large infestation, but it could be a sign of cockroaches if you notice an unexplained oily or musty odour.  You may also spot cockroach eggs. Cockroach eggs are larger than feces. If you find oval-shaped eggs, eggs are egg cases that contain multiple eggs.  

What if you are not spotting signs of cockroaches, but you think you have cockroaches? Then you need to look in their favourite hiding spots.

Like all other pests, cockroaches need access to food, water, and shelter. Your kitchen is an excellent source of all of those things. That is why you can often find cockroaches in the kitchen. However, they may not be easy to spot. Cockroaches may hide under appliances, under sinks, under cabinets, and in the areas around stoves and ovens. 

Basements and crawl spaces are another favourite spot for roaches. They are dark and moist. They offer plenty of hiding spots, including another favourite spot – boxes. You may not think of them as having food sources for cockroaches, but glue and paper products are another food source that cockroaches like. 

Of course, any area that stores food will also attract roaches. Roaches love to hide in pantries. However, you have to keep in mind that roaches are not picky about their food. Trash cans also provide perfect hiding spots for roaches.
